AYMAN R. ALWAN, a landscape architect with Syrian origins, was born in Kuwait and moved to Ohio, USA, at the age of 17. After mastering the art of landscape architecture in the USA, he was eager to bring his skills back to his homeland of Syria. Inspired by Syria's historical courtyards and Babylon's hanging gardens, he followed Frank Lloyd Wright's ethos of harmonizing architecture with its environment. Influenced by Richard Neutra's simplicity and climate responsiveness, Ayman integrated nature into his designs.

As a tennis player, he had the privilege of coaching the most prominent members of Syrian society, granting him access to the upper echelon of luxury and celebrity.

AYMAN's expertise in designing and constructing elaborate homes and palaces quickly established him as the go-to choice for high-end residential and summer properties in the Middle East. In the 1990s, as the design and build trend flourished, he was able to fully pursue his passion for blending indoor and outdoor spaces with seamless beauty. Mostly in Syria, Kuwait, and UAE AYMAN left a stamp of his design DNA.

             In 1997, AYMAN faced an unparalleled challenge: to design an underground palace spanning 50,000 sq. ft. for one of the most distinguished individuals in the Middle East region. The palace had to be constructed on 37 acres of elevated land, with a 25-meter elevation change, entirely underground for safety reasons, while still allowing for natural light and sun exposure in most rooms, and remaining invisible from aerial views. This was the ultimate test of his skills and marked a defining moment in his career as a designer of the most complex ultra-luxury homes.

The palace was a marvel of design and innovation, featuring rooftop gardens on all visible surfaces, an optimal sun and air direction, four courtyards cutting through all four underground floors, each with its own temperature-controlled tropical garden and pool, skylights that opened and closed for air circulation, and twelve waterfalls cascading into four stunning water features. This hidden gem was a masterpiece of indoor and outdoor integration, and it remains one of AYMAN's proudest accomplishments as a leader in ultra-luxury and, the most complex home design industry.

            As the situation in Syria worsened in 2011, AYMAN made the decision to move to Dubai, where he already had a reputation for creating lavish and intricate residential structures. He was able to seamlessly continue his work and build upon his legacy, delivering the same level of excellence that his clients had come to expect from him.

 

          Based in Dubai, the ultra-luxury and latest international technology hub, AYMAN got the chance to design and build several mansions & places using the most advanced and the latest architectural techniques and technologies. He noticed that the intense heat of the summers and the chill of the winters often limited the use of outdoor spaces to only six months of the year. This led him to develop INOUGREEN DESIGN, a revolutionary architectural design system that seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces, improving indoor climate and air quality while promoting comfort and efficiency.

          By considering indoor-outdoor integration during the design stage, AYMAN was able to create homes that were healthier, more energy-efficient, and offered greater access to natural light and fresh air, regardless of the weather conditions outside. This innovative design system has helped him reach new heights in his career and offer his clients a harmonious and connected living environment, where they can experience the benefits of nature while still enjoying the comfort and convenience of indoor living.

          With a desire to expand his legacy of success, AYMAN moved to Toronto, Canada, in 2019 where he founded 4INSIDEOUT with his daughter RAMA ALWAN, a University of Toronto architect, and his son RASSEM ALWAN, an architect who got his credentials from Hungary. Based in Oakville, Ontario, 4INSIDEOUT serves the North American region and offers AYMAN the opportunity to bring his expertise and innovative design systems to a new audience.
